The sky over the Valles Caldera reminded me that nature's most spectacular canvases are free.

There is a specific kind of silence that only exists in the high desert at midnight. It’s heavy, expectant, and—if you wait long enough—it breathes.

I’ve spent countless nights chasing that breath, waiting for the moment when the sky decides to tell a story. One of those stories resulted in a piece that is incredibly dear to me: "The Missing Light." Today, I am so excited to share that this piece has found a home for the spring. It will be part of the upcoming "Eyes in the Dark" exhibition at Aurora Gallery right here in Albuquerque.

The Missing Light
The Missing Light

In this image, the aurora doesn't just sit above the landscape; it drapes over it like a silk veil in shades of deep magenta and electric gold. To me, the title reflects that feeling we all have sometimes—searching for a spark of brilliance when things feel a bit dim. It’s a reminder that even when the sun goes down, the light hasn't disappeared; it has simply changed form.

Join Me for the Opening

Seeing your work printed large and hung on a gallery wall is a vulnerable, beautiful experience. I would love to share that moment with you.

  • Exhibition: Eyes in the Dark

  • Location: Aurora Gallery, Albuquerque, NM

  • Opening Night: April 10th, 6-9 PM

Whether you’re a fellow photographer, an art lover, or just someone who enjoys the magic of the New Mexico night sky, I’d love for you to stop by. We’ll be celebrating the beauty of the night and the "eyes" that seek out the wonder hidden within it.

Let’s Connect

If you can't make it to the opening, the show will be running throughout the month. Connect with me via Instagram: @luissaenz

Thank you for being part of this journey. Your support is the "light" that keeps me heading out into the dark with my camera in hand.
